Look no further when it comes to pan-asian inspired dishes and beverages. At Smoking Doll, they have a broad menu ranging of Thai, Chinese and Japanese flavors. With quite a few locations in the capital, this restaurant has been one of my go-to’s for casual Asian dining. There are so many dishes to discover here. Beverages
My favorite go-to drink at any Thai restaurant is their Thai Iced Tea. The best are the ones where they can get it to a rich pulled tea, a bit bitter but with hints of sweetness. The color should be a dark or bold brown or orange. The concoction at Smoking Doll features the tea with tapioca which is more of a Taiwanese novelty drink. I do love a good bubble tea (Chatime is my favorite) but the tapioca of choice they use at this restaurant is not sweet and does not have the chewy bounce to it. I would order the Thai Iced Tea again but without any tapioca. It’s a must-drink to pair with any Thai dishes.
I also ordered the Purple Haze on my last visit which I found was too sweet and was not presented in same cup as the photo. (I often order my food accordingly to appetizing menu photos!)
Mains
One of the staples I enjoy here is their Pad Kraprao Kai Dao which is minced meat with jasmine rice with an egg on top. Be sure to ask for the egg to be cooked soft -medium as the egg yolk on rice is the best part of this dish. I love it here because the meat is so flavorful and it really reminds me of food I can get in Asia.
Their Pad See Ew, flat noodles, are also another great dish cooked pretty authentically. This savory dish always comes in a decent portion and makes a hearty meal. Be sure to eat all your greens as well as they come with the Chinese vegetables wok fried with the flat noodles.
Occasionally, I order a Green or Red Curry here if I am feeling extra bold. They have different spice levels for their curries and I find these to be creamy yet sweet.
Sushi
At this restaurant they also have an extensive range of sushi you could order here. On our last visit the rolls which stuck out to me the most are the Smoking Roll, and the Volcano Roll as these are rolls which come out with smoke infused goodness. They make for great entertainment value, great photos and best of all taste excellent!
I found that it was quite lovely to have the choice of sushi along with mains and other types of dishes. They also hold sushi all you can eat days for only 89 dhs per person!
Desserts
This is my go-to place for Mango Sticky Rice. The portion is large, it comes beautifully presented and the mangos are fresh. On my last visit I tried their Grilled Pineapples with Banana Ice Cream too! I was not a big fan of banana ice cream but I am a huge fan of grilled pineapples!
