Genghis Grill, Al Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi, UAE
I enjoyed a lovely evening at Genghis Grill sampling many of the dishes they have to offer. It’s great to have a taste of asian-fusion dining once in a while. The restaurant is located inside Al Wahda Mall at the core of Abu Dhabi. The décor of the dining room is exceptionally decorated with east-asian details, I especially love the gong at the entrance!
From the moment we walked in, the staff was so friendly and courteous. Be sure to take a look at the back of all the chef’s shirts as they have funny sayings on them!
Starters
We were able to try quite a few starters. First, they provide complimentary rice chips at every table with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. These come in such colorful varieties! Some of my favorites of the night was the Bang Bang Prawns (45dhs). They toss the crispy prawns in a creamy coconut wasabi sauce! If you really enjoy this dish, also be sure to try out their Creamy Srirachi Chicken Bao which uses a similar bold flavoring. I really love their bao’s (buns), next time I will opt for their Bao Sharing Tower which features all 4 flavors for 85dhs.
The honey chilli potatoes was another dish great for sharing and had quite a unique tangy flavor I did not find anywhere else. They use a signature blend of honey, chilli and vinegar and it is quite addicting too! Other starters we also tried was the Tom Yum Soup – my husband loves this one! It’s a super flavorful broth filled with lots of veggies like mushrooms, ginger, tomatoes etc.
Our waitress recommended us order the famous Yaki Gyoza (35dhs) which are chicken dumplings. I enjoyed the fact that you can order them either steamed or pan-fried.
Mains
For the mains, we had such a treat! We ordered the kung pao chicken – this dish was so good! The chicken breast was tender and juicy! It is excellent with a side of white rice.
Next up, we were able to see the chefs cook the duck right on the middle stove (resembling the shield of the Mongolians). There was lots of energy in the kitchen. The portion for this was quite large and we (2 persons) did not end up finishing this. It was our favorite main of the night so we packed it to go to enjoy at home. The duck with the hint of sweetness from the mandarins was so delicious! I wish I knew how to make this at home but at least we know where to go now for some mandarin duck. The zest mandarin orange sauce is really a must try!
Lastly we also ordered the coconut lemongrass cod curry (50dhs). I can see why this one is a popular choice among their guests. The sauce so creamy, color is bright but the flavor is subtle which I really enjoyed.
Desserts
For desserts I ordered the molten lava cake (of course!). It was made well with the chocolate center oozing out. My husband wanted to try something new and had the cookie batter stuffed wontons. We both thought this one was a bit difficult to eat as the wontons were rock hard from the ice cream. It did have wonderful presentation tho!
I almost forgot to mention the magnificent drink we had shared – a super large watermelon sunrise (48dhs). It must have been 1 litre at least! Made with fresh watermelon juice, almonds and orange marmalade – it was delicious!
I was pleasantly impressed with the food and service at Genghis Grill. I will be happy to be back and cannot wait to bang the gong again!
