Blue Grill, Yas Island Rotana, Abu Dhabi, UAE
My husband and I were invited to enjoy a lovely meal at Blue Grill on Thursday evening. Located on Yas Island it’s a convenient location for tourists and residents from its close proximity to Ferrari World, Yas Beach and not to mention the F1 Yas Marina Circuit across the street.
Welcome
We arrived for a 6pm meal, actually I specially requested an early reservation and they were gracious enough to accommodate us. We were the first to arrive and was greeted by Evann, our friendly and helpful server for the night.
They have ample seating inside and a lovely patio section outdoors. We sat right by the windows so that we could watch the sunset. Chef Damian, came by our table and recommended a few dishes to us. He highlighted the newly updated menu featuring more steak cuts and for lower prices too!
Starters
We started off our meal with some amazing Cubreau Oysters. These were from Scotland and boy was I satisfied by them! As Chef Damian mentioned, they love to serve these oysters because they have the most meat. He was right! I think Scotland oysters are now my favorite kind.
My husband ordered the seared duck foie gras starter. It came in a small 2 piece portion but it was perfect as a starter. I loved the garnish it came with and the cashew granola.
Mains
For our mains, I ordered the Seafood Platter! I really love lobster. This platter is a seafood-lover pleaser. Imagine you can eat all your favorite types of seafood for dinner, amazing. It arrived to our table on a huge plate! Garnished with seaweed you will first sea the amazing grilled half lobster in all of its glory. Next to it you will find mussels, scallops, prawns and salmon. It was such a large portion, my husband had quite a bit from my plate. I really enjoyed the lobster but wish it came with a side of melted butter, that’s how I always love to eat my grilled lobster. The prawns were quite large and cooked to perfection. I was thoroughly impressed with the overall platter but have also made a recommendation to place it on a 2-tier plating for a more upscale appealing presentation.
Meanwhile my husband opted for the Irish John Stone Dry aged tenderloin, cooked to rare. It came beautifully presented on the iconic blue plates of Blue Grill. My husband enjoyed his tenderloin and the sauce it was paired with – the green Madagascar peppercorn sauce. Chef Damian mentioned to us he makes it with brandy for the peppercorn sauce!
Dessert
And finally dessert time came and the menu was presented on a tablet with the photos. Every single dessert look so mouthwatering. I was suddenly hungry again for dessert. The tablet menu can be quite tempting but after some negotiating with my husband we opted to try the melting ball Cheesecake. I love these type of desserts as its quite fun and surprising for the guests. It came with a side of hot caramel sauce, I thought it was a bit overpowering on the dessert, but perhaps I had poured too much caramel sauce on my dessert. I would love to see possibly a strawberry sauce or chocolate sauce (goes so well with cheesecake!).
Overall, my husband and I left so satisfied with our dinner at Blue Grill. It was a perfect spot for an evening out, they delivered on good-quality, fresh food and excellent service at Yas Island Rotana.
