Chinese New Year is fast approaching this year taking place from January 28 to February 11. 新年快乐 (Xīnnián kuàilè) – happy Chinese New Year to all those celebrating! As this is my first year in Abu Dhabi, my husband and I are far away from our families, but we found comfort in finding restaurants like Cho Gao who remind us of our traditions!

Dim Sum and Sushi Night
I was so excited to be invited to the Dim Sum and Sushi Night at Cho Gao. I am a huge lover of dim-sum and its quite difficult to find these delicacies in Abu Dhabi.
My husband and I were very impressed with the decor of the restaurant. It was like stepping from the hotel lobby to a whole new world resembling the streets of East Asia. There were trolley carts in the corner, which reminded me of the carts that served ‘Dou Fu Fai’, a popular sweet tofu dessert in Asia. Gongs were hung on the walls as artwork. Even a large gong was placed in the hallway!
Every Wednesday, their new promotion features unlimited dim-sum and sushi platters with free-flow wine.
Sushi Selection: Shrimp Maki, Volcano Roll, California Roll, Caramel Maki
Dim Sum Selection: Shrimp Siomai, Chicken Siomai, Seafood Hargao, Prawn Wonton, Vegetable Dumpling
From the Sushi Selection, my favourite was the Caramel Maki which features a crispy caramel crab topping. This one is the most unique roll I’ve had in Abu Dhabi. I love that it gives you a hint of sweetness and it is perfect without the soy-sauce dipping.
I loved all of the dim sum dumplings they had. The one I was most impressed with was the Seafood Hargao. I found that the thickness of the wrapper was just right which can be difficult to master! How I missed Har Gao!
This menu is JUST PERFECT for beginners to Dim Sum or Sushi. With just the right amount of selections, it will give them a taste of dim-sum. I loved the unique sushi rolls like Volcano and Caramel Maki, but love how they included the staples like California Roll. I can already see this menu perfect for my friends who do not prefer raw fish but love sushi! Do you have a friend in mind who would love this menu?
