Hiccup Cafe, Fotouh Al Khair Mall, Abu Dhabi, UAE
This particular location of Hiccup Cafe is a hidden gem among the hustle and bustle of the Abu Dhabi city core. Its located in the mall beside the World Trade Center on the 1st floor of the Fotouh Al Khair Mall. As soon as you see the Marks and Spencers on the 1st floor (not ground level), delicious food is just steps away! Hiccup has several branches within the UAE, this one, is the largest one where it fits all occasions – whether it be a romantic candle lit dinner with your beau, family meal with kids, or just a cake-and-latte kind of night.
I was invited to sample the menu at the restaurant. Read on more for my experience and suggested must-try items.
Starter
The restaurant has so much seating inside and outside (in the open area), great place for large PARTIES! We opted to sit in the inside for Starters/Mains and outside (mall hallway) in a more casual atmosphere for dessert. It seemed like forever since I had a candle-lit dinner with my husband.
With 4 starter options, it was easy to make a choice! We selected the Asian Shrimp Tempura (49dhs). It comes in 3-4 piece shrimp with a side thai salad. The presentation and the taste was A+ but it is a bit pricey for the portion size.
We also decided to try to Warm Thai Beef Salad (56dhs). This was my favorite dish of the night. The portion was large, ingredients were fresh and the dish was plated beautifully. I’d definitely come back for this dish sometime soon!
Mains
My husband ordered the Australian Beef Tenderloin (100dhs), and I ordered a Mushroom and Chicken Fettuccine (66dhs). The steak was cooked medium-rare and came with a good portion of vegetables. The steak is a great option for steak lovers, it will not disappoint you! For the pasta, I loved how they were able to accommodate my request to substitute the fettuccine for penne pasta.
Dessert
We were able to taste 3 different desserts which ended my night just right! We got to try the Lotus Cheesecake, Dark Chocolate Cake and a Chocolate Fondant. They were all A-MAZING! I don’t know which one I loved more. The lotus cheesecake here is topped with fresh fruits. The dark chocolate cake is topped with a macaron and the chocolate fondant is topped with ICE CREAM! Paired with a Latte for any of these, and you will be in HEAVEN.
Recommendations
I really was impressed with the food at Hiccup Cafe. It offered a wide range of cuisine ranging from Indian, Italian, Thai, American, etc! I find that it is the perfect place for a large family or (indecisive) couples! It really has something for everyone. The food quality and presentation of the dishes were excellent. I do find that the price is a bit high for a cafe but will be worth it once your find your go-to favorites (Thai Beef Salad for me). I’d love to see their menu improve with quality photos instead of clip-art ones and possibly better paper quality would be more suitable for this type of restaurant-cafe.
